Lentils: sweet for your body

Lentils sweet for your body in 2019 Healthtipsa.comYellow, red, orange, green or brown: lentils are available in (almost) all colors of the rainbow. These colorful legumes not only taste good in many dishes, they are also good for your line and your health. This proved a study by researchers at St. Michael’s Hospital in Canada.

Lentils Sweet For Your Body

Lentils originate from the Middle East, where they have been processed in many dishes for centuries. The healthy legumes also appeared in our Western kitchen after hippies flocked to India at the time, where they discovered tasty and cheap lentil dishes. Although you have a lot of possibilities with lentils, they still have not really broken through with us. Too bad, because there are many reasons to put them on the menu regularly.

Lentils are not only cheap and easy to prepare, they are also good for our health. For example, a recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, in which a team of researchers at St. Michael’s Hospital in Canada confirmed that pulses, especially chickpeas, lentils and beans, would be effective in losing pounds, lowering cholesterol and to feel satisfied longer. For six weeks, 940 adult participants ate daily a portion of legumes at their main meals. And guess what? They lost no less than 5% of their cholesterol and felt saturated for 31% longer. But that does not stop there. Lentils are also an excellent source of iron, dietary fiber, minerals and proteins.

  • Dietary fiber ensures good digestion, smooth bowel movements and healthy intestinal flora.
  • Iron is an important component of hemoglobin, a substance that transports the oxygen cells – an important fuel in sweet your body – in the blood and absorbs them in the red blood cells. A shortage of iron made you tired. Lentils give you extra energy.
  • Lentils contain slow carbohydrates. They digest slowly, but provide a longer feeling of satiety. As a result, our hunger stays longer and we eat less.
  • The legumes also contain many proteins: they grow more muscles, and they are indispensable for burning fat. Lentils fit in every healthy diet, because muscles consume energy, even at rest.
